Old College

Old College design and development

The NEAC is the only American cemetery based in the Netherlands, where over 10,000 servicemen and women are honoured, each of them to be remembered as individuals. These soldiers left their homes to fight in a land they did not know, to liberate people they had never met.
The advancement of the American forces during WW2 through the Netherlands and German territory meant they would encounter both natural and man-made defences. As lead designer, I proposed to create installations that take reference from the materiality of each of the key campaigns.
The installations are seen as sculptural pieces that provide an opportunity for the placement of people stories, quotes and integrated display cases, creating moments of intrigue and encounter.

The task was to design a memorable and personal exhibition that has synergies with the purpose built architectural design of the building which works in harmony with the associated archivalfilm.

The exhibition design had to encourage visitors to relate to the stories presented through personal testimonies and provide context to those remembered in the Cemetery and the Walls on the Missing, through an appropriate exhibition that is sensitive to the nature of a commemorative site.

Using Pinterest’s iconic layout the idea was to take the chamfered image frames and stack them flat to create a layered structure. This creates an inviting space with the Logo at its heart. There’s plenty of seating for networking and a welcome/desk bar can provide trending food and beverages. To the rear is a space for lightning talks which can highlight Pinterest Academy and demonstrate successful campaigns. AV screens showing market trends and other digital information are integrated within bold graphics and registration points as well as a separate meeting room.

The idea is to provide a fun introduction to Pinterest’s marketing tools whilst creating meaningful moments where Sellers and clients/ prospects can connect, exchange ideas on new campaign opportunities, and strengthen the partnership.

Being involved on such an important building in Abu Dhabi’s history, Qasr Al Hosn provided an exciting and challenging experience. Regular client workshops and on-site co-ordination contributed to a rich and curated exhibition bridging cultural links of modern Abu Dhabi and its historic past.

Dover Castle presented an exciting challenge to create an engaging visitor attraction within the walls of the original casemates of the castle. The Dover Siege Experience needed to tell the story of the only siege to happen there between the French and English during the First Barons War. It had to present a sense of play and discovery whilst being housed in the challenging environment of the original casemates and connect out to the wider experience.
The final idea was to create an immersive 3D story for the visitor to discover. This included setting the scene, being introduced to key characters such as King John and William Marshall, an immersive battle AV with a cross bow interactive and the chance to discover the final outcome and how it shaped the future of Dover Castle.

Dover Castle Under Siege

From meticulous research and preliminary sketching, to modelling 3D layouts and finalizing designs for the final concept, I supported the Dover Castle Under Siege team to help tell the story of King John and Dover's only siege.

As lead designer on the project I worked with a dedicated team to provide a visitor centre for the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial Cemetery. The design had to incorporate the heroic personal stories of the American pilots who flew during WW1 and include a full size Nieuport 17 plane in a limited space.
The final idea was to cut the plane in half and mount it on to a mirror to create the illusion of a full sized plane within the tight space.
